The Red Handfish, Brachionichthys politus, walks on its stout pectorial fins, but is listed as vulnerable and is under pressure from habitat degradation and collection. Image credit: CSIRO.

Fifty million-years ago, they ambled across the floors of the world's oceans, but now only exist off off Tasmania and in eastern and southern Australia.

I have a question I keep loosing livestock and it is really starting to puzzle me. They are really sporadic. Recently I purchased a coral banded shrimp and a Tiger Conch about a week ago. i acclimated them for about a hour and half and them put them in the tank. After the first night I noticed that the shrimp was missing a claw he was good for about a week and then the day of the 4th i woke up and he was stone dead in a cave. The Conch is still doing really good. I have lost a lot of other livestock ...

Finally got my B&W's and love them. Thank you Jim They are happy in their new home, and have their choice of selecting from ( 5), which RBTA condo for the day seems the comfiest. Even the orange clowns whom I have had for almost a year & half, never even acknowledged the bubble tips before, have now decided that these might be a better living arrangement than the pulsing for their evening slumber.

"Magma", my coral banded shrimp had to even come out and check out his new neighbors!

Read the exclusive full story by Ret Talbot, who was in Papua New Guinea researching a story for CORAL when the fish was discovered. (The Lightning Clown was acquired by Blue Zoo Aquatics of Los Angeles, and placed with noted breeder and CORAL contributor Matt Pedersen, who will attempt to fix a strain of the fish.)

Overview

This is a durable, but potentially quarrelsome aquarium inhabitant. It is a greedy eater and a nearly bulletproof beginner's fish, but must not be confined in small aquarium with easily intimidated species.

Adults are best kept with more aggressive tankmates. In a larger tank, it is possible to keep A. melanopus with more peaceful fishes. If you want to see it interact with a sea anemone, add ...

Flame Hawkfish just came up on the list. This is the first that I've seen them available from my supplier. I would like to get one for the Science center. Is there anyone that would be willing to sponsor the purchase of one of these? The price for it is $40.00 shipped. If four people want to pitch in $10.00, it would be really easy to do.
