glue for plastic

Post by Patriot54 on Tue Jun 23, 2009 7:26 pm

I'm looking for so type of glue or bonding agent that will fix this part.

As you can see, they fit together perfectly. Are there any ideas as to what will work?

Idk about PVC glue, that's the purple stuff? This part is the imput from the pump to the skimmer. So I guess there will be some pressure.

i would use super glue. pvc glue isnt made to join stuff like that and the purple stuff is the primer you use it then when it drys use the glue.

if there is going to be any pressure I would not use it and just buy new. you will never get it as strong as it was. plus why take the chance of having it break when you are not home. Just my 2 cents lol

Weld-On works great for plastic gluing but I know I can't find it local here in Fargo... Other than that look into a 2 part epoxy for plastics. Use it just until you can get a new part as it will never be as strong as it was.

Could you just mod the skimmer to use real PVP plumbing and be done with it? it would be cheaper and more reliable that way...

there is a product called Plexis and it some strong stuff and is made for plastic and fiberglass stuff it kinda melts as it bonds. i do have some other wise you could ck with a fiberglass shop in town there but a whole tube is like 40-50 bucks i have seen where you can get a sample on line but i never got some that way. the main use we useed it for was glueing the tabs on snowmobile hoods when we built them. now i use it for bonding broken parts like wing tips on a airplane plastic/fiberglass parts. like i said if you ever get to park rapids i have some you could use.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am just going to see if I can't find some replacement parts, but a sweep that small is hard to find. For now, I'm going to use an epoxy.

it is schedule 80 not 40. i do not think regular pvc cement will work, you need to bond the two pieces together. either with acrylic weld maybe like a #4 off of maybe ebay, kinda lame you have to do hazmat stuff to get it but it you can also use to build acrylic tanks and stuff, or you could try weld on from BRS
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Plumbing-and-Pumps-Schedule-80-Plumbing-SCH-80-Cement-and-Primer/c14_15_42/index.html

I suggest just finding the right part cause it would suck if it broke and you dumped water all over your house well you were at work.

Custom plastic in fargo carries weld-on produces. And I agree replacing the part would be your best option. if your ever in Grand Forks and can't find parts to fix it I have a Plastic welder I could weld the broken piece for you.
