New tank set-up

Post by Coldwave21 on Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:10 pm

So I have lights on the way! I got t5 metal halide lights with lunar leds for night... It is 406Watts for a 58 gallon tank... Hope this is good

  • 1x MH 250W 15000K
  • 4x 39W T5 HO Actinic Blue
  • 4x Dual LED

Now that I have lights covered and my sump is built I need some plants for the sump and some live rock up top to start to aquascape my tank alittle... Kinda boring with just water and salt! ha... Any ideas on rock? Any ways better than others to aquascape? rock first then sand correct?

    Marine land skimmers any good?

Lights should be great for that size tank IMO.
I would get some eco-rox from bulk reef supply and then just get a few pound of live rovk from some were same with the sand get some dead stuff and then a few pounds of live from an exsiting tank. I did mine that way with the rock and then the sand.

I have not had that kind of skimmer so I am not much help with that.

I agree with danreefs. I just sold a octopus nw 110 think I paid like $150 new. You don't see them for sale often. I liked mine just decided to go skimmerless with a dsb and turf scrubber instead.

Yeah a skimmer is one piece of equipment you don't want to skimp on because you will get what you payed for, the Octopus is a desent skimmer I use a MSX 200 and love it. I have used just about every skimmer out there and I prefer the MSX skimmers for the money.

So I came across some live rock that a guy had, it was sitting in buckets from when he took his tank down... Rock was not fully submerged but moist non the less.. I picked it up ( about 200#'s worth )
I have about 3.5 extra 5 gallon buckets full...
