If the rock has been out of the water for a while or even if it has not been it woul dbe a good Idea to give it an acid bath with muriatic acid this will clean the rock of any unwanted pests and junk that maybe in side of the rock. Do a search to find out more an how to do it. I have doine this 3-4 times with rock I have got.
