Acanoholic TOTM

Post by blennieluvr on Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:12 pm

Did you guys see the tank of the month on Reef Central? Sweet acans! IMO, the tank would be a little more interesting with more variety of corals but still, gotta give the acans some respect! One nice thing about sticking with one type of coral, you can do whatever it takes to make them happy without worrying about corals that have different needs.

Yeah, to be honest I really don't find that tank appealing. I mean I love my acans but I wouldn't want a majority tank of them. I think it would be so much better with some "wavy" lps. Also acans are so ridiculously easy I don't think it's super impressive. On RC I would say my favorite lps tanks are Aquabuckets and Poukie's. I really wish they would put up one of the nice non photo tanks that is out there as well.

It is a nice tank. I thinking of moving to a all SPS tank. Its getting harder and harder to make my LPS happy.

The TOTM is a nice looking acan tank. Some people do full softies or LPS, or Non-photosynthetic coral tanks as a kind of species tank. This will allow them to focus on the type of corals they want in that tank and not have to give up certain things to make the other types of corals hapy. It isn't my favorite tank but it is a nice acan species tank.

Not my cup of tea. Lots of nice Acans, but I like a little more variety.

I think that they have done a non-Photo TOTM before. I think a couple of years ago.

The thing is it would be like a whole sps tank full of one type of acropora, or a non photo tank with nothing but gorgs. I wasn't a fan of the RBTA dominated tank a while back either though. Even if he had thrown in some different acan species it would have looked better. I also don't like that he said most of those were purchased as colonies. What makes the tank so TOTM worthy?

I know. If someone wanted to just drop 15k into corals, they to could by a totm om RC. At least the huge grown out colonies of SPS can't be rushed, so you know that the person really has a passion for the hobby. The few SPS colonies that this person had could have easily been placed there a few months ago. I say dumb.
