Pipefish info or home needed

Post by GoingPostal on Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:56 am

Andre I know you keep them, anybody else got some info on them or perhaps want some? A lady in my town received two in her seahorse order and wants me to take them but I don't really have a suitable setup for them and currently they are only eating live brine, I have no idea if they can be switched to frozen or how long that would take, they are brownish looking, no idea on species and had about 20 babies yesterday although I expect they will all die as they are too small to eat brine. I know some can do well in reefs but not a clue if these will or not. Need peaceful tankmates I assume.

you know i never even saw this thread tell now.
My pipe fish is the most unique and one of my favorite to watch eat. I just kinda took it off one of my buddies hands here in town"lfs" and he eats frozen, i lucked out probably. I know they can be finicky like seahorses. I have about 6000gph flow and that is not supposed to be good for them but he seems healthy and happy to me, been alive for more than a year now in my tank.

I didn't end up taking them, hatching brine shrimp is not something I have time to do currently or want to really. I'm not sure if they are still alive, she was keeping them in an unheated, unfiltered 2 gallon tank and had put the babies in with her moms dwarf seahorses.

I know right? And I have no idea how she's checking salinity either. I know she doesn't have a refractometer.
