LED on nano

Post by blennieluvr on Sun Feb 05, 2012 10:14 pm

OK...so I'm not a noob but I don't know anything about LED's. I wondered if these might work for my 12g nano. They're not much more than buying new bulbs and my employer might be more willing to let me keep my tank at work if I'm running LED's. ??

Funny, if you kept your tank at home your employer would want you to use metal halides and if you keep it at work LED's. Who's your employer again? oh yea! Wink

Howdy, I'd like one, if no other members with senority jump in. What size tank area should they go over? I have "plans" to put two 55 gallons together or turn a coffee table into an aquarium or...

Doesn't go by seniority so much as the first to speak up. I wouldn't think you'd want them on a very big tank unless you had other lights with it as it's not going to shed light in a very wide pattern with a head that shape. Maybe my 12g will be about right but not bigger then that but that's a guess on my part. It's a great nano tank option.

He doesn't have fixtures to show all 3 working at the same time but says they do indeed work. I'm willing to go ahead with it. $40 is a cheap way to get into LED's! (BTW, was kinda kidding about work Swan....and, for the record, we do like people to save on their electric bills!)

I'll throw in for it too! If there's still an open 'spot' lol, just reduces my cost of buying one in the future. If he's willing to hold them til the 18th it'd be best I bet >.< Otherwise I can stop by and give you monies any time.

And, unfortunately, LEDs don't have a big spread. Its what I run on my tank!

He said he couldn't hold them and I guess I don't blame him. So, if I'm paying now, I'm hoping someone in Duluth with either pick them up or that he'll ship speedee.

If seapony is out, swan is in and we still have 3 takers.

GP - I hadn't thought about the OK looking fixture part. The one we have is kinda dorky looking...maybe I can paint it black or something.

Go to menards or home depot. They both have the hanging supplies to do pendant style light fixtures.

I have one already. It just isn't that pretty. A silverish kind of thing.

He isn't set up to do paypal and the item is no longer listed on craigslist so he figures he will still most likely have them when we go on the 18th and we can pick them up. I'll contact him before then.

1 - me
2 - goingpostal
3- seaponygirl
in line - swanwillow

Hopefully, he will still have all three. I'll let you know.

I thought about jumping in on this but decided against it only because I don't have the height to adjust intensity. I was thinking about using them under the tank for my sump frag setup. I think I'll do a small Aquastyle kit and build it at the March meeting, assuming all pans out...
