How to catch a PITA fish...

Post by Dedex on Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:45 am

Any suggestions on the topic above? My yellow chromis keeps irritating the rest of the fish in the tank. He is such a bully for being such a small fish. I want to catch him and put him somewhere else (down the toilet preferrably - j/k). He killed my damzel before we got the new 75g, and I thought that if he had more room and could choose his territory that he would be better, but he isn't. I tried to catch him last night, and all I got was more angry at him...he's probably lucky I didn't catch him as I would have flushed him for sure Mad Am I just stuck with a mean fish, or does anyone have a suggestion?

Try feeding your fish out of a net for a while and you can train some fish to jump right in, this works with my clownfish. Or is there any way you can block off part of the tank with a piece of plexiglass, make the catching area smaller? Saltwater fish are fast but I've caught a couple, including a fast little clown goby and blenny but it require dismantling part of the tank for the second one, very frustrating. Hope you have better luck.

I was going to suggest it go to your mantis but thought that may seem mean. We're evil around here. Twisted Evil

I will assume that that means the mantis will have him for lunch? As long as I don't have to watch him be eaten, it will be no different than being flushed then will it? I have to catch the little bugger first! I'll keep you posted!

Take a 2 liter pop bottle cut the top off and invert it,take some food put it in there and watch him go in and can't come out!!! I am off to work so I can't post a pic of mine but it is a simple way.

Just cut the bottle about so you have about 6" or so of the main body then make the top were the lid would be a little bit bigger so the fish cab get in but not to big and just invert the top part into the bottom.

If you can't figure itout I can post a picture when I get home.

I'd take him. Maybe he could stand up to my clown and I could finally have another fish in my tank!

Sure. Although I'm not sure how I will get him. I'm sure he's NOT going to be too aggressive for my tank.

Hmmmm....maybe I don't want him? Then I'd have to wait for three fish to die off before getting nicer ones.

well, since sealife is actually selling bashers, the fish will be safe. But, accidents DO happen-I had a blue damnsel in with my first mantis for a year without a single incident. pig

WE CAUGHT HIM!!! Thanks for the ideas. The peice of plexiglass in the corner of the tank during a feeding did it! He is now in the sump until we can decide what we are going to do with him...
