Baby Snails??

Post by Home_Depot on Mon Dec 22, 2008 8:59 am

I have got a LOT like well over 100 baby snails that only come out at night I see them all over my glass and on the rocks. Should I leave them along or try and take some of them out??

Hey, I could use some! Or...are they type I would want? How can they take over? Won't they just starve themselves and die off if there are too many?

If they are like snails of freshwater, I had thousands of them weekly.

Garrett

Do they look like the tiny snail in this picture? Its below the Astrea.

If yes then they are Collinista snails. Harmless algae eaters. They dont grow very big but multiply in number a lot. I have some but my Christmas wrasse eats them from time to time. Yellow Coris wrasse also eats them. But they are not pests.

There is a nice article that has some info about these snails by Dr Ron Shimek. The information is towards the end of this article.

Hope that helps

PS: ID it and make sure they are exactly the same before passing them on to others.
