keeping up the calc

Post by Swanwillow on Sat Mar 29, 2008 11:58 pm

I did a naughty.

I found e-bay.

and, a duncan, a favia, and a chalice were won. SOOOO, I'll need to be keeping up my calcium/alk stuff.

Heck, I need test kits for it too... affraid

So, I know some people have easy-to-find recipes for different easy to find mixes. I don't think I'm ready for a calc reactor-theres just no room, yet.

Where's the pics of what you're getting? You'll love the duncans, they grow so fast! I'm no help on the calcium though, I have a ton of lps and never test crap, I don't even have a calcium kit right now. I just keep up the water changes.

If that's all you have in your tank for LPS, if your doing Random water changes you should be good. mostly if your using a higher buffer salt like RC or Red sea Reef salt.
but if you prefer to have supplements on hand incase your corals consumption is higher then just random water changes, you might want to look into a 2 part solution, http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Calcium,-Alkalinity-&-Magnesium-Two-Part-Calcium-and-Alkalinity/c1_51/index.html
myself I use a Calcium Reactor but for the time being I'm using ESV 2 parts because I've been to busy to dial in my Reactor Embarassed or lazy one or the other...LOL.
I know of some that have used melt ice brands for supplements because they contain calcium, magnesium, sulfur, ect chlorides.
I like using raw chemicals because then I can measure my mix, I found the melt ice method to be to unconsistent. for my use but then I'm picky to and have to much in my tank to take those risks too. Rolling Eyes

What color Duncans did you get?

and I'm bidding on a few other things from this seller, we'll see what I come home with. I am bidding and winning on palys, acans (which, if it goes like last night I'll loose with 30 seconds left to someone one 50 bucks) a monti (I bid 5 bucks, so if I win it, I'll be surprised) and some different LPS's that I've never heard of before.. oops, out bid on it, but thats okay, I didn't NEED it.

Yeah I have watched some of his sales, he doesn't have bad looking corals and very fair shipping.
yeah those Duncans look just like mine.
I'd like to find some other colored ones.

it doesn't say, its only 5 dollars extra, its actually now all said and done, for 5 corals-shipping came to 50 bucks... I averaged, including shipping, 25 bucks/coral. Hope that they grow out quickly Wink

I ended up with a blue maze brain and the palys also.
