filter sock

Post by blennieluvr on Tue May 12, 2009 9:16 pm

Anyone have a filter sock for catching little pieces of debris? If so, what'd you use, where'd you put it and how did it work? I've got little white stuff flying all over my tank the last couple of days.

I got 4" socks on my tank. It cathes all the crap from the drain line before it goes in the sump. Works great.

I have one that came with the sump, it's right where the drain line comes in and stops the microbubbles, if I didn't have the bubble problem I wouldn't use it because I hate cleaning it out all the time.

This is my setup, not that exact sump, mines larger but same deal

I just throw them in the washer with a little bleach and they come out clean.

Couldn't we just buy some cheap panty hose and toss them when they get gross?

Cammie, check out this page. I made a bunch of these and seem to work pretty well.

I made several so I'm not washing them all the time. Just rinse to get out debris, let dry, and toss in laundry bucket and collect a few then wash them. I dont use them all the time, but do work when cleaning tank and debris is floating around. I do think they catch some of the pods which I don't like!
